Prototype Engineers M. W. Shaw & Sons have over 50-years experience
of Agricultural and Commercial Vehicle Development.

In recent years emphasis has grown on Forestry Equipment, especially waste wood handling and processing machines, together with heavy commercial vehicle axle components, including brake information sensor brackets which are the ultimate in precision steel fabrication.

Early Agricultural machines include The “Hydrastumper”, Tractor Mounted Tree Extractor featured on the BBC “Tomorrow’s World” television program pulling up 50-inch (127cm) girth trees; The “Hydralogger” skidder-loader which extracted timber from woodland and loaded it onto a trailer; A selection of tractor powered Saw Benches with blades from 24-inches (61cm) to 48-inches (122cm) completed the range, the largest being a mobile rack bench capable of processing trees 15-feet (4.5m) long by over 20-inches diameter.

The Hydrastumper now has its own dedicated website: http://www.hydrastumper.com/

Commercial Vehicle development included a Horse Box with a frame made in rectangular hollow section steel originally produced in 1965, believed to be the first to use this weight / strength efficient method of Horsebox construction. Produced in sizes from 12-foot to 24-foot long, some of the earliest models are still in use on their third or fourth truck chassis.

Recent commercial vehicle developments include ‘Beavertail’ conversions which can be rigid or adjustable; the latter allows the truck or trailer to be used as a flatbed when necessary.

The range of prototype and special purpose machines produced is endless; the most impressive is probably an excavator mounted stump grinder weighing 12-tonnes and used to clear 6-foot (185cm) diameter Beech tree stumps on the route of the new intercontinental railway line from London to Folkestone.

A recent diversification is the design and manufacture of mobile service and support equipment for aircraft.

Our Motto has always been “The impossible we do immediately, Miracles take a little longer”
